Behind the Google Looking Glass: A Compendium of Google Tools
In the increasingly pervasive world of Search, Google is the undisputed king. With nearly 40 % of the Search market and the largest index (approx. 8 billion documents), Google has become synonymous with Search and progressively more so as Google expands into territory traditionally considered that of tech powerhouses like Microsoft. In fact, in a recent cover article printed in Fortune Magazine titled "Gates VS. Google: Search and Destroy," Bill Gates is quoted as saying, “they are more like us than anyone else we have ever competed with;" high praise indeed.
More than just a search engine, to “Google” something or someone is now common practice and an accepted part of vocabulary in North America. Providing information management in the cyberspace maelstrom, Google is becoming synonymous with the Internet itself. Considered an invaluable tool by some and the subject of prophecy (press Launch to view) by others, Google ascended to popularity on its simple interface and relevant results. It has only become more dominant since going public in April 2004. Stocks are now valued at $220 per share and the mammoth revenues derived from Google’s online advertising unit, is expected to reach $15 billion this year.
